Well, after two years plus…
November 16th, 2009
…I am going to try to get the site up and rolling again. I have had a broken turntable for a long while now, but I am hoping to get some help from a friend at the office who knows electrical engineering in ways that I can only dream about. Thanks for checking in over my ridiculously long absence. Posts should start coming soon. I hope.

Hey peoples. This is just a quicky note to say that I will be posting again in the next few days. I think I will be keeping to one post a month for a little while, since the missus and I are in the process of buying a new home. Please check back for a new record (or two) over the weekend.
Best,

Sometimes it’s just the cover that gets ya. This is definitely one of those times. I really like this cover, though when I bought it, it was pretty beat up. So here I present “Temptation” with a restored cover. I know that there are some purists out there that will want the original cover, so I am including it below. It’s from an old LaserDisc transfer of the cover made with 1995 technology, but you should be happy to have it. Yes, I am attempting to poke fun a George Lucas. Yes, I’m a geek. Fine. There.
Ps. – Sorry I haven’t posted in a while. It’s been a busy fall. Oh yeah, and here is some information on Roger Williams. He’s still alive, and still a little creepy looking.

This weeks fine taste of sharity is another in the ping-pong series from Spinorama Records. These were, apparently, department store b-grade series, but as with many things, give them time and they become treasures. And, yes, this is the last of the harmonica music for a while. Though this album is credited to Eddy Manson, another of Borrah Minevitch’s students, according to this link, it was actually made by Danny Welton.
Whomever the artist, the LP is well worth a listen. Enjoy!

I can’t think of a better way to start off a new month than MORE HARMONICA MUSIC!
This week’s fine mouth organ extravaganza is brought to you by another apprentice of Borrah Minevitch and his Harmonica Rascals, Leo Diamond. Certain to have been popular with the stereo early-adopters of the late 50’s, “Exciting Sounds From Romantic Places” is brimming with cars and trains and planes zooming from left to right and back again. Plus, it’s loaded with plenty of crazy sound effects and obscure instruments, making it a sure-to-be hit at your fancy parties. As an added treat, the cover… I have no idea where they found the tripe bathing suit, but come on, amazing… and the look of utter contempt from our bathing beauty, perfect. I can’t imagine who could pass up this fine bargain.
It’s priced to move, so download now.
Sharity #17: Johnny Puleo and His Harmonica Gang – Volume 2
September 29th, 2006
1. Sabre Dance
2. I’m Confessin’ That I Love You
3. There’ll Never Be Another You
4. Espana Cani
5. Sweetheart of Sigma Chi
6. Granada
7. Stars & Stripes Militaire
8. Sweet Sue
9. Springtime on the Danube
10. Night on Witches Mountain
11. French Touch
12. Whippoorwill Polka
And now… Back to the important stuff… Harmonica music!
I found this fine Johnny Puleo record at the same Goodwill where I came across Sharity #2: Johnny Puleo and his Harmonica Gang – Jewish and Israeli Favorites. This new record opens with the craziness of the Sabre Dance. If you think you don’t know the Sabre Dance, I’ll be willing to bet that you actually do… OK, think of the frenetic music that is oft to accompany your second-rate magician whilst they move boxes around the stage to distract you from the beautiful assistant sliding into the trapdoor before she is cut to pieces. That’s the Sabre Dance… and it’s even crazier when played by gangster mouth-organists. But don’t trust my word, I suggest you download the album and find out for yourself.
Sharity #16: Lenny Dee – Sweethearts on Parade
September 21st, 2006
1. My Kind Of Girl
2. Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo
3. Bye Bye Baby
4. Stella By Starlight
5. Coquette
6. Sweet Sue, Just You
7. Linda
8. Tammy
9. Rosetta
10. Dear Heart
11. Ruby
12. Sweethearts On Parade
If Buddy Cole was the lonely man of the 50’s (see Sharity #15), I think it’s safe to say Lenny Dee was the lucky man of the 60’s. Where Buddy was writing songs about being taken advantage of, and women being mean to him, Lenny was simply cueing the ladies up and handing them batons. Be it Linda, or Tammy, or Rosetta, or Ruby, or Stella, or poor Sue, to whom he apparently lied (Sweet Sue, Just You), Lenny was a ladies man. I guess the piano was passé and the birds were flocking to the hip new sounds of the Hammond Model AV. Whatever the reason, it’s clear that LD had the chops.
This selection pairs well with a light Chianti… Bon appétit!
Sharity #15: Buddy Cole – Sleepy Time Gal
September 20th, 2006
1. Lover Come Back To Me
2. You Took Advantage Of Me
3. Mean To Me
4. Almost In Your Arms
5. Fulfillment
6. Love Me Or Leave Me
7. If I Could Be With You
8. Sleepy Time Gal
9. No Other Love
10. Chloe
11. Indian Summer
12. It Happend In Monterey
Buddy Cole must have had it pretty bad. Just check out the titles of the first seven songs on this album… Lover Come Back To Me, You Took Advantage Of Me, Mean To Me, Almost In Your Arms, Fulfillment (short lived, one can assume), Love Me Or Leave Me, If I Could Be With You. The guy was a wreck. Strangely, the music is mostly upbeat and jazzy. There’s even a cha cha thrown in for good measure. Mr. Cole must have been the most upbeat lonely guy of the 50’s.
I suggest you give it a listen!
